Texas, Are You Real ID Compliant And Ready To Fly After May 7th? Check ID Now
(Mix 93-1) The deadline for Texans to become Real ID compliant is approaching quickly. It will be here well before the summer travel season.
Don't let not complying with this mandate ruin your late spring getaway or your summer vacation this year.
Any Texan planning on boarding a plane or planning to visit a secured federal facility or some courthouses on or after May 07, 2025, will need to be compliant.

Everyone is urged to check their ID for a special icon. If it's not there then contact the Texas Department of Public Safety to make an appointment to have their driver license or state-issued ID updated in accordance with the new mandate if it's not updated.
We're planning our summer vacation now and checked our IDs and thankfully we're already compliant and can board a plane.
How do you obtain a REAL ID?
Stop into any Texas DMV office and ask for a new REAL ID-compliant driver's license or identification card. You'll need some additional information or paperwork:
- One document that establishes identity, date of birth, and proof of U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, or other lawful U.S. status. A birth certificate will suffice for most people.
- Your Social Security number (card not required) or evidence of SSN ineligibility.
- Two documents to establish proof of residence in the state you're getting the ID for, such as a utility bill, paycheck stub, or mortgage payment.
Once you provide this information your Texas driver license will be updated and once re-issued will feature a star within a gold circle in the upper right corner. Either on a standard-issued driver license or a provisional license for those under 21.
What happens if you're not Real ID compliant at the airport?
Anyone who cannot display a compliant ID on or after May 07, 2025, at a TSA checkpoint or a secured federal facility will be denied access to the terminal or government building.
There are additional forms of ID that you can show to gain access to the terminal or federal facility if you don't have time to get the gold star. You can also show your US or foreign passport, passport card, US military ID, or state-issued enhanced driver license or permanent resident card.
Don't let not being in compliance ruin any of your flights for your summer vacation.
If you don't plan on flying anytime soon or after May 7th right now and your license isn't Real ID compliant, no worries, your license is still legal and you can drive without any issues.
