According to a 2022 study done by Solitare Bliss, Texas is #3 in the country for the most gaming-obsessed. On average it was found that Texans spend 17 hour per week playing video games.

According to research by Indivisible Game, they studied Google search data and found that the most searched 2D video game was Sonic the Hedgehog.

The study combined five common search terms related to 2D games to reveal the nationwide average monthly search volume for each game over the past year.

Sonic the Hedgehog is also the most popular 2D video game in Texas. People in Texas searched for this particular game 86,789 times.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog was released in 1991, the premise is a hedgehog named Sonic goes to battle with a mad scientist named Doctor Eggman.

The popularity of Sonic was so huge that in 2020 a Sonic the Hedgehog Movie was finally made with Ben Swartz as the voice of Sonic, and Jim Carrey as Doctor Eggman.. A sequel was released in 2022, and a third movie is scheduled for 2024.

The latest Sonic video game will be released in October 2023.

Sonic the Hedgehog is the most popular 2D video game in the country according to Google searches, and it tops the list for 24 states, including Texas.

The second most popular video game is PacMan. I guess the classics will always reign supreme.
