In Texas, Dr Pepper isn’t just a soda- it’s a cultural icon. From corner stores in small towns to stadiums in big cities, the fizzy, 23-flavor favorite has long held a special place in the hearts (and coolers) of Texans. But now, the Lone Star State’s beloved beverage is making waves far beyond its home turf.

According to a new report by Piper Sandler where researchers studied the U.S. teens' spending habits to find their results, Dr. Pepper has officially been named the most popular soda among American teens- beating out giants like Coca-Cola and Pepsi in a sweet victory that’s got Texas beaming with pride.

Dr. Pepper is a Gen Z Favorite

In the survey of over 6-thousand Gen Zers, Dr. Pepper beat out Coca-Cola, Gatorade, and every other drink brand to become the most popular beverage overall. It’s part of a bigger trend, too — in 2023, Dr. Pepper passed Pepsi in national market share and is climbing fast behind Coke.

This isn't all too surprising, though. Somehow, Dr. Pepper has definitely surged on social media. If you search "Dr. Pepper" on TikTok, you'll find thousands of videos of users not just enjoying it, but doctoring it up to make the unique 23 flavors really stand out; this is also, partially, the reason we got Dirty Dr. Pepper!

The dirty soda phenomena had taken over social media, so much so that Coffee Mate even created their very own creamer so that you could recreate your very own dirty soda in the comfort of your home.

Whether it's the unique blend of flavors, the loyal fanbase, or the deep Texas roots, Dr Pepper’s rise to the top proves that some classics never go out of style. As teens across the country make their pick, they’re unknowingly embracing a taste of Texas tradition. Check out what other things Gen Z loves here.
