Barbara Bass, the mayor of the City of Tyler, has a goal of planting 5000 trees within the city in five years and the city is on track to meet that goal, but is in need of volunteers to help obtain it though.

Saturday, is Tree Tyler Day and the City of Tyler along with Mayor Bass is asking for the publics help to plant around 100 trees Saturday morning. If you'd like to help make Tyler a greener community, you'll need to show up at Harvey Convention Center on Front St. Saturday at 10a, where you'll enjoy a catered breakfast and then be teamed up and head out to plant some trees. You will though need to bring your own shovel and gloves but the heavy work, like digging a big hole to put the tree in will be done by city crews ahead of time.

The ultimate goal is to plant 5000 new trees and so far more than 4000 have been registered within the city limits and registered through the mayors office.
