A Tyler ISD Teacher’s Request Is Met With Overwhelming Support
East Texas students don't realize that we have some amazing educators in the classroom. These dedicated educators go well beyond what's expected of them to help their students learn and achieve success.
Teachers give so much of their time, along with love, advice, and school supplies, to their students, and at times, asking for something can be a tough and difficult thing to do.
Teachers are like you and I, we all encounter life challenges and deal with them as they are dealt to us. One Tyler ISD recently posted on his social media account that he needed help from his fellow teachers.
According to his Facebook post, Jason Bailey has been teaching for more than 20 years and he has made the heartbreaking decision and announced online that he was going to have to resign his position and retire as a classroom teacher due to health reasons.
The most difficult thing he says he's had to do is now ask his fellow teachers if they could donate some of their sick days to him so that he could use them to help him get to his retirement date with the district.
As you can imagine Jason has been met with so much love, appreciation, gratitude, and donated sick days. Despite the 'embarrassment' that he says he felt in making the request, he received around a thousand shares and nearly one hundred comments from fellow teachers, friends, former students, and people who just cared about him.
It's amazing how the universe works. The teaching community at Tyler ISD has come through for Mr. Bailey and he says he will be able to retire on December 20th with no days docked or penalties. In fact, he says he probably has more days than he needs and I'm sure he'll be donating those extra days back to the 'pool' for other teachers to use.
We all wish Mr. Bailey the best in his retirement and pray that he receives the medical attention that he needs to get healthy once again.
If you know a teacher like Mr. Bailey tell us all about them. Nominate them for the Mix 93-1 Teacher Of The Week and we could recognize them and send them some rewards thanks to Cooperative Teachers Credit Union and we'll brag on them for you on the radio all week too!
