A prior behavior specialist at Brownsboro ISD is facing felony allegations after an upsetting incident occurred in a classroom and later became recognizable on video. The police arrested Kyle Rocha, 39, on September 24, 2024, after the completion of an investigation into the alleged assault of a 7-year-old on September 13, 2024, Chandler Elementary School. The case was submitted via a referral from the child's family member.

📹 Video Footage Leads to Arrest

According to an affidavit, during a review of the classroom video, Rocha had asked for the necklace, which had become a distraction, from the child. When the child leaned back in the desk, Rocha pushed the desk backward. The child hit his head and elbows on the desk behind him. The child stood up and was crying. The Henderson County Crimes Against Children Taskforce reviewed photographs of injuries to the child and subsequently arrested Rocha on a third-degree felony charge for injuring a child with intent to cause bodily harm.

📧 Specialist's Emails Reflect on Actions

In the days following the incident, Rocha sent emails to school officials reflecting on his actions. In one of the emails, he listed several "mistakes" including how he dealt with the disruption and he failed to de-escalate the situation. He denied pushing the child or having any physical contact with him though. He sent another email the night of the incident where he expressed frustration about the ABLE classroom and even said he didn't think he would make it through the school year.

⚖️ Facing Felony Charges and Potential Prison Time

Ten days later, Rocha was terminated from his position. His next court date is on May 19, 2025. If convicted for the third-degree felony, Rocha could serve up to 10 years in prison and/or be fined. Attempts to contact Rocha's defense attorney went unanswered. Parts of the case are still under review, but some records were made available under Texas open records laws.
