It's rodeo season in East Texas! There are three big rodeo events supporting East Texas endeavors beginning Thursday night. The dirt will be flying thanks to the barrel racers, bull and bronc riders, and kids chasing sheep around the rodeo arena.

Get ready for the heat and humidity this weekend. After all the rain we've experienced the past couple of weeks, it looks like we're going to have a dry weekend, but it'll probably be a bit on the humid side though.

Cross Brand Cowboy Church Arena - Tyler

The Lindale Championship Rodeo is returning to the Cross Brand Cowboy Church and it will be FREE for all to attend thanks to our ticket sponsors. Mutton Bustin', bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, roping, tie-down, and more events will keep everyone entertained along with concerts each night. 64th Annual Winnsboro Rodeo

Thursday - Saturday
Wheeler Dr - Winnsboro

Along with your traditional rodeo events, the Lil' Buckaroos can get in on the fun with the calf scramble, junior barrels, mutton bustin', and more. There are free nights for the event and admission fees for others. Check the site for ticket information.

 

Malakoff FFA Rodeo

Malakoff High School - Malakoff

Bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, team roping, barrel racing and other events will take place at the rodeo arena at Malakoff High School. This is a ticketed event that will benefit the Malakoff FFA program.

 

Antique Tractor Show

Bear Creek General Store will be having an Antique Tractor Show. It will be a Saturday you won’t want to miss out on.

 

Caddo Mounds State Historic Site Reopening

Following its near-total destruction after a tornado in 2019, Caddo Mounds State Historic Site will celebrate its official reopening on Saturday, May 18. The ribbon-cutting ceremony commences at 11:30 a.m. with speakers reflecting on the importance of restoring the site and the resiliency of the Caddo Nation.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the new $2.5 million visitor center and reconstructed grass house and participate in a variety of outdoor activities including:

Atlatl dart throwing: Participants will learn about the development of hunting tools, different atlatl styles, and dart throwing techniques. They will then put what they learned to the test by throwing darts at a target using the atlatl.

Friction fire demonstration: Visitors will enhance their survival skills as they learn the ancient technique of starting a fire using friction between two objects.

Flint Knapping: Learn the ancient art of making arrowheads from stone.

Archaeology tour: From 2 - 3 p.m,. archaeologist Victor Galan and Caddo Citizen Lauren Haupt will lead a tour that explores the history and culture of the Caddo people.

Cost: The event is free and open to the public

Organized and hosted by East Texas Alzheimer's Alliance and Chase Palmer - Longview Area Cornhole League bringing together cornhole enthusiasts from 4 states with two brackets: competitive and social backyard. The tournament will be held rain or shine. There will be food trucks, beer from local breweries, opportunity to win prizes, and free entry for spectators. This is a family-friendly event.

 

3rd Annual Beat The Heat Music Fest

This all-ages event will feature live music for you to dance along with on the dance floor along with available food from food trucks and activities for the kids too! This is a free event.
