(Longview, Texas) - Even with the heat outside, we'll spend less time indoors this summer. We can go swimming at the lake or a pool, some will hike to get some exercise, others will take 30 minutes to go on a brisk walk. In that time outdoors, we have to be mindful of other people and other creatures.

There are some creatures in East Texas that come with a nasty bite. Fire ants are a perfect example of this. Step on a hill and let a few of them crawl onto your foot, you'll feel that sting very quickly.

We're Spending More Time Outside

Despite the oppressive and disrespectful heat we'll deal with during the summer, it's still good to get outside for short amount of time. When out exploring nature, be cautious of your surroundings. The East Texas countryside is very beautiful, but there are some dangers that we'll need to watch out for.

Some of these dangers can even end up in our house. Just the simple act of putting on our shoes could lead to the painful sting. Not to make you panic but it's a good idea to check the inside of your shoes before putting them one, especially if they've been in the dark for a bit. A scorpion or spider could have curled up in there.
