With the first day of early voting in the 2016 Presidential election behind us, more than 5,000 Smith County residents turned out yesterday to cast their ballot early.  Registered voters may vote early through 7 p.m. on Friday, November 4th after that they will have to cast their ballots on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8th.

Voter registrar offices have reported a record number of people registering to vote in this years' election. In Smith County there are more than 135,000 registered to vote and nearly 70,000 in Gregg County, both of those numbers are up from the 2012 Presidential election.

The nice thing about casting your vote early in Smith or Gregg County, as long as you're a registered voter you can vote at any of the following polling locations:

Remember Texas Voter ID Laws are in effect when you go to cast you ballot, so you'll want to make sure you have one of the seven approved documents with you when you vote.  The approved documents are:

  • Texas drivers license
  • Texas Election ID certificate
  • Texas personal ID card
  • license to carry handgun (issued by DPS)
  • U.S. Military ID
  • U.S. Citizenship certificate
  • U.S. Passport
