The total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, is expected to be a significant astronomical event, visible across parts of North America. It will be the last total eclipse we'll see over North America until 2044. The path of totality, where the Sun will be completely covered by the Moon, is projected to cross regions of the United States, including parts of Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

For those who are looking to get a super experience for this eclipse, Delta Airlines is offering a special flight from Austin to Detroit where you'll be able to spend as much time as possible directly within the path of totality.

Delta flight 1218 will be specifically operated on an A220-300, which apparently has extra-large windows. The flight will depart from Austin at 12:15 p.m. CT and land in Detroit at 4:20 p.m. ET.

Eric Beck, Managing Director of Domestic Network Planning said of the flight:

Thanks to teams across the company, the idea of viewing a total eclipse from the air will become a reality for our customers.

If you aren't able to board this flight, Delta is offering other flights where you could be in the path of totality. Check those out here.

If you'd prefer to see the eclipse from the ground, Dallas, Austin, and Waco are cities in Texas that will be smack-dab in the middle of the zone for a 100% eclipse. El Paso will be just outside the 100% zone, but we’ll still get an 80% eclipse without leaving the city.
