It doesn't get any more southern than these stick-to-your-bones offerings.

You know what I love about southern cooking? I love that it's hearty, meaning it feels like you actually ate something when you get up from the table. It's comforting and feels like a big warm hug. It's the food that speaks to your soul.

That being said, I'm not great a making it.

But I'm darn good at eating it! Recently I found a mouth-watering list of "Southern Dishes Everyone Should Know How to Make" on Southern Living. These are dishes that are staples in the south, but are also the ones that good cooks across this nation should know how to make. Out of 35 dishes, I could probably make about seven, but four of them would probably be with a box mix.

I'll give you the first 10 on the list and if you feel confident you can check out the rest here.

1. Squash Casserole
2. Fried Green Tomatoes
3. Buttermilk Biscuits
4. Sweet Tea
5. Deviled Eggs
6. Shrimp & Grits
7. Hush Puppies
8. Ham Salad Sandwiches
9. Mint Julep
10. Banana Pudding
