Best Father’s Day Ideas for East Texas Families

You should be thinking about dear ole dad right about now and figuring out how you are going to show him appreciation on his special day, just like you did for your mom a few weeks back.

We're already hearing ads on the radio reminding us that Father's Day is coming. The big box hardware stores are stocked full of tools, power equipment, grills, and lawn tools, and they hope you'll stop in and pick something up and make dad happy and feel proud.

The department stores in the mall are stocked with some interesting trinkets like mini pool tables, house shoes, ties, screwdriver sets, and glass sets for drinking some whiskey!

But do East Texas dads want these things?

As an East Texas dad, I can speak for myself and say that I have pretty much everything I need right now. I've got my lawn equipment, my house shoes, plenty of ties, a toolbox loaded with tools, so there's not much else I could want for.

Many dads would probably just enjoy some alone time, or time with their kids playing games or working out together, and not fixing something or doing yard work.

We know oftentimes you feel compelled to give us something for Father's Day, but please don't let it be another tie!

If you are compelled and are a giver, here are some ways to show him appreciation or some gifts to give him:

tickets to a concert, sporting event, or show
a family outing to a theme park or a hike together
take him to his favorite restaurant
create a customized coffee mug for him
create a scrapbook of memories - even a digital one works
a portable speaker for when he's working in the garage
a fitness tracker - but be careful that it doesn't send the wrong message - just like with Mom!
