I Got 11 Dollars From This Class Action Settlement

Are class-action lawsuits really worth it?  One class-action lawsuit was filed after people used a certain hair product and their hair started falling out in chunks, and I filed a claim and got eleven bucks.  

Today (October 1) is National Hair Day, and we're all supposed to put a little extra effort into our dos.  NuMe founded National Hair Day on October 1, 2017, to "celebrate styling tools and hair care products that make our hair outstanding allowing us to feel our most beautiful selves."  We don't feel all that beautiful when our hair falls out, usually.

I used Wen Hair Car products in 2014 and 2015, and I do remember it burned a little in the shower, but it was a minty variety and I thought it was supposed to.  Then I read on the web that people were pulling out chunks of their own hair after using it and a class-action lawsuit had been filed, and I thought it was a good idea to stop using it just in case it might make me go bald.  It never did, but I was eligible to file a claim, so I did.  And on September 24th, 2019, my check for $11.76 arrived in the mail.

People Magazine said some Wen Hair Care users ended up with bald patches on their heads, and said "up to six million people could get up to $20,000 as part of the class-action settlement.  I hope the people who had serious hair damage did end up with a big check.  I'm sure not all settlement amounts were the same, and whether or not class-action lawsuits are worth it or not probably depends on the size of the horse you have in the race.  If you're more impacted by the situation, your settlement will probably have a bigger impact on your bank account.

If you used Wen, I hope you filed a claim and pocketed at least a little something for the burning scalp issues and beyond.  And if you're having a bad hair day on National Hair Day,oh well!  At least you have hair and your head is not burning.  It's a good day.
