Second Annual Aquafest Coming to Lake Palestine for Children With Disabilities
A really cool event is coming back to Lake Palestine for its second year. It’s called an “Adaptive Aquafest” and it gives children and adults with disabilities the chance to experience water skiing. If you are not the parent of, or personally know anyone with a disability, then you may have never thought about the fact that they can’t experience water sports like the rest of us.
This event allows wheelchair-bound children and adults access to water sports by using specially designed skis and boating equipment, along with highly trained professionals to help the participants. Texas Adaptive Aquatics is a nonprofit group from Lufkin that provides this experience. So far they have helped more than 10,000 disabled persons nationwide to experience water skiing and boating.
Right now, they are looking for skiers, donations and volunteers. The event is set for Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lake Palestine.
