Tesla Selects Austin For Its Newest Factory
Travis County has been selected as the home for Tesla's new factory.
The announcement was made by Tesla's Chief Executive Elan Musk today during an earnings call for the company. This new factory will be producing several lines of the Tesla electric cars in a new facility that'll cover 20,000 acres roughly 15 minutes from the state's capital with an estimated price tag of $1.1 billion for the new facility.
In the announcement Elon Musk said,
We’re going to make it a factory that is going to be stunning its right on the Colorado River. So we’re actually going to have to have a boardwalk over you, hiking, biking trail. It’s going to basically be an ecological paradise."
It was November of last year that Tesla unveiled plans for their Cybertruck. The design of the truck was met with very mixed reviews. This new breed of truck will be built in the new Austin based facility along with the Semi and Tesla Model 3 and Model Y for the eastern half of North America. This new auto plant is expected to bring with it 5000 new jobs and are eyeing to begin producing vehicles as soon as this year.
