Texas’ Hidden Heights: Believe it or Not, There are 13 Mountain Ranges in the Lone Star State
Everything is bigger in Texas, well except maybe the mountains, but at least we have mountains!
We all know that Texas is a big state with many different climates and landscape. Texas has its beaches, its bayous, deep woods, desert, big cities, and rural areas. And we all know that there are mountains in Texas.
But did you know there are several mountain ranges found in the Lone Star State? In fact, there are 13 mountain ranges in Texas.
Yep, There's 13 Actual Mountain Ranges
Texas isn't really known for mountains and as you will see in the gallery below, there is a reason for that. Texas' mountains are pretty small compared to the Rockies and other mountain ranges, and many of Texas' mountains lack the vegetation you would see on other mountains. And don't even think about snow skiing.
Still, Texans love to hike and explore the mountains we have.
The Tallest
The tallest mountain in Texas and perhaps the most famous is the Guadalupe Peak. The elevation of the Guadalupe Peak is 8,751 ft.
The Smallest
Another mountain range found in Texas, may surprise people that they are actually looking at mountains. The Palo Pinto Mountains look like just a bunch of hills located in Palo Pinto County. The highest point? Just 1,447 feet. The mountain range is also home to what will be a new state park in Texas.
