With the kids out of school for the summer, they'll be spending a lot of time out on the neighborhood streets riding their bikes. With more kids and bikes on the road this summer, we as drivers have to pay closer attention but bikers have to be aware of the rules of the road too and be safe as well.

The Tyler Police Department has joined forces with Sam's Club in Tyler and are hosting a Bike Rodeo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at Sam's on Loop 323 in Tyler.

The bicycle safety rodeo is aimed at kids between ages 4 and 13. The kids will get a quick lecture on bike safety and what's expected of them when riding their bike on the streets. Officers will also check to make sure your kids' helmet fits properly and give their bike a quick safety inspection to check their tires, brakes and chain.

The funnest part of the bike rodeo will be the road course the kids can ride their bike through on the Sam's Club parking lot.

The child's parent or guardian must be present and will be asked to register upon arrival.
