Barbecuing and outdoor grilling are a way of life for many Texans.

Once you fire up that grill, whether it's gas, wood, or charcoal, you will draw the attention of many of your neighbors.

Once those burgers, steaks, and brisket are put on the grill or in the smoker and the aroma starts permeating the neighborhood, they're going to be seeking you out!

While right now may not be the best outdoor grilling weather, because it's 28 degrees thanks to the Polar Vortex, more favorable Spring and Summer weather will be here before you know it.

When that weather finally arrives invitations will be going out to family, friends, and neighbors to come over for a good time as you fire up that grill for them. If you've ever hosted a barbecue you know how quickly expensive it can get.

What does it take to pull off a great backyard barbecue?

  • mouthwatering meat - burgers, brisket, sausage
  • cold beverages - sweet tea, soft drinks, beer
  • appetizers - chips and salsa
  • sides - potato salad, baked beans, corn
  • desserts - homemade ice cream, pecan pie, birthday cake
  • music - gotta have the tunes

To save on some of the expense of hosting a backyard barbecue, we often ask our guests to bring something to help offset the cost of hosting such an event. I happened to run across a question that a fellow Texan posted on a social media platform asking,

What do cheap people bring to a BBQ?

The responses were quite hilarious and honestly very truthful! At the time of this article's creation, there were nearly 300 responses!

We all want to be great guests and bring something that will add value and enhance the barbecue, but in this case, if you show up with these things you're considered cheap!

Thanks to the responses from these Texans, I will not bring these things over when my neighbor invites me over the next time he's grillin'!

Bringing These Things To A BBQ Apparently Make You Look Cheap

Social media allows for a lot of honesty. After a question was posted in a social media group it's been determined that if you bring these things to a Texas BBQ, you're considered to be a cheap guest.
