East Texas Life Scout Needs Help With Eagle Project For Young Children
Being a scout in the Boy Scouts Of America has one ultimate goal, obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
As a young boy, I made it through Cub Scouts, Webelos, Arrow of Light and was on my way up, earning the rank of First Class. Unfortunately this is the highest I would go as a Boy Scout, something I regret to this day.
Becoming an Eagle Scout takes a lot of time, patience and work. To earn the highest rank in the organization, a scout must complete an Eagle project.
KLTV 7's Brianna Rivers met with 17-year-old Garrett Byrd of Tyler who is currently a Life Scout working toward obtaining his Eagle Scout rank. For his Eagle project, Byrd told Rivers he wants to make 'blessing bags' to hand out to children attending a special summer camp program at the Glass Recreation Center in Tyler. Byrd got the idea for these bags after serving on a mission trip with his church to the Dallas area.
However, he needs help to complete his project.
Byrd’s goal is to make 400 'blessing bags,' and is asking the community for donations to help him reach these children. According to Rivers, this Life Scout needs the following to help fill the bags:
You can help Byrd by dropping off requested donations at Lanes Chapel Methodist Church at 8720 Old Jacksonville Hwy. in Tyler.
