Listen to Florence + the Machine’s ‘Final Fantasy XV’ Songs
Back in March, we learned that Florence + the Machine contributed a cover of Ben E. King’s soul classic “Stand by Me” to Final Fantasy XV, the next installment in the popular video game series. With the release of the game coming on Sept. 30, they’ve unveiled two more tracks, “Too Much Is Never Enough” and “I Will Be.”
“I’ve always seen Final Fantasy as a beautiful and creative game so I don’t think I could have worked with another video game,” Florence Welch said in an image that she embedded in a tweet. “It wouldn’t have made sense in some ways if the landscape of Final Fantasy and my own internal landscape seemed to fit quite well. It’s mythical and beautiful and epic.
For Welch, the desire to create music for the game, which, 15 versions in, brings an entirely new meaning to the word “final,” emerged from her own musical curiosity. “I was listening to [U.K. radio station] Classic FM and there was a whole two-hour program about classical music in videogames,” she continued. “It was so inspiring and a whole scope of music that I didn’t know about. It was really fascinating, the music was incredibly beautiful and emotional and I took it as a sort of sign, to see what I can do in this medium.”
Spotify subscribers can stream all three songs below and the tracks can also be purchased at iTunes. Earlier this year, Florence + the Machine debuted The Odyssey, a 40-minute short film that connected the videos for several of the songs on their most recent album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful, around a theme of “a metaphorical journey about escaping your demons, confronting yourself and returning to the original Florence, the dancer, the performer, the lover.”
