With safety in mind, Longview ISD is following suit with several other school districts when it comes to carrying a bag or purse in to one of their athletic events.

In a recent announcement on the Longview ISD Facebook page, purses, backpacks, totes and bags will no longer be allowed to be carried in to a Longview ISD athletic event. This new policy goes one step further than the new policy recently enacted by Tyler ISD for events held at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. The Tyler ISD policy affects events held at Rose Stadium, where the new policy enacted by Longview ISD covers all of their athletic events effective immediately.

Basically, the new policy will restrict fans from bringing in any kind of bag other than a clear bag that is about the size of a gallon Ziploc bag. All bags must be clear and not exceed a 12 inch by 12 inch by 6 inch size and limited to one logo no larger than 4 inches. Also allowed will be small clutch bags about the size of your hand and any bag for medical requirements. The following infographic posted on the Longview ISD Facebook page clearly describes the new policy.

Athletic Director John King told the Longview News Journal that this decision was an easy one and that the district was being proactive and following similar policies recently instated by Tyler, Lake Travis, Austin and Houston ISD's.

We’re all having to come up with emergency plans in case there’s bad weather, a shooter or anything to that nature, and this is just a part of that plan. It is a safety measure for all of our teams, all of our students and all of the fans, both for the home team and our visitors."

When you're headed off to the game this season, be patient waiting to get in because there will be those that will be unaware of this policy and will be upset because they have to walk back to their vehicle to hide the bag they cannot bring in to the stadium.
