This happened to me just a few days ago. My cell phone is ringing, and I see my own photo, name and phone number. If this happens to you, don't answer it.

Local law enforcement agencies are alerting the public to this new scam. This does not appear to be a new scam, according to this 2014 news article from CBS News, this has been happening for years.

As it happened to me earlier this week, and local law enforcement are speaking out about it, the occurrence seems to have increased locally.

What should you do, if you see your own phone number and face and the caller ID? Nothing. Don't answer it.

The CBS News article states that will alert the scammer that your phone is active number. I wish I had known this, before I answered. Thankfully, I just sat silently, and the caller hung up. I did not share any of my information.
