Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery, Kelly Clarkson -- all names previously unheard until they stood before the judges on American Idol. The list can go on, but after the first day of American Idol Season 11 auditions on FOX, you can add a new name to that list.

Phillip Phillips, meet America. Because America loves you already.

It was no accident producers showed Phillips' (rocking name, yes?) audition at the end of last night's series premiere, because they knew what America was about to see. But what we got on the other end, in terms of his musical selections, well, that was a surprise.

When you would expect him to throw out some David Cook, Daughtry or something on the same line, Phillips went sans guitar to do a soulful rendition of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. When the judges begged for more, he brought out the guitar to do an incredible acoustic of Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

At that point, I was sold.

After Phillips, you can't look past 16-year-old Gabi Carruba, who belted out Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning." She's going to give other girls in Hollywood a run for their money this season.

The second part of the premiere is at 7 p.m. tonight on FOX, with plenty of other auditions still to go.

Phillips certainly rocked the house. Was he your favorite? Who else should do well in Hollywood?

In case you missed his full audition, we've got you taken care of.

And here's the audition by Gabi Carrubba:
