East Texas School Closures & Delays For Wednesday, January 28
(East Texas) The big thaw has been happening across much of East Texas today, as temperatures finally climbed above freezing for the first time since Friday evening.
Improved Road Conditions
While the frozen precipitation may be gone on the majority of East Texas roads and highways, there is still a chance for some icy conditions tomorrow morning, as any residual moisture on the roads will once again freeze tonight.
Power Is Being Restored Across East Texas
Power crews throughout the Piney Woods have been feverishly working to restore power that was interrupted when trees fell onto power lines or vehicles took out power poles. Now that temperatures are above freezing, the trees that were once weighed down with frozen ice are shedding the extra weight and are rebounding to their natural state. Hopefully, they are not taking out any power lines as they pop back into place.
For the majority of East Texas students, the snow/ice days are over, and it's back to class as normal beginning tomorrow morning. However, there are some school districts that have cancelled classes for a third day this week. This list will be updated as information for the districts becomes available.
