It is fair to say that the Amarillo area has one of the most beautiful state parks nearby. We are so lucky to have Palo Duro Canyon right in our backyard. We have such a beautiful place for all the hikes. We are lucky to have a chance to take a trip to see Texas - The Outdoor Musicals, the canyon has so much to offer.
We have so many people who plan their summer trips to our area just to visit Palo Duro Canyon. They are not disappointed. What surprises me is even with that beauty it is not the most visited state park in Texas. Nope, I would have argued with you and lost if that was the topic of conversation. How could Palo Duro Canyon not be? Oh, but it is not the most visited.
If you would like to check out the most visited park in Texas you will need to get in the car and take the family to the Hill Country. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife that honor goes to Garner State Park in Concan.
From September 2020 to May 2021, more than 317,000 people visited the Garner State Park. The visitors out at Palo Duro Canyon are nothing to complain about. They are the second most visited, with a respectable 306,000 in that same timeframe.
It's so popular to visit this state park that you usually have to make a reservation. Their weekend passes are sold out every weekend. The waiting period can be over a month to get a pass. So if you have plans to visit you definitely want to get online and buy your state park passes first.
Garner Stae Park attracts many visitors because they have a lot to offer. The park holds 16 miles of scenic trails, it also has a 2.9-mile stretch of access to the Frio River, and has 1,774 acres available for overnight camping. So there is plenty to do.
