There will be no swimming laps, diving, splashing or laughter heard from children at Fun Forest Pool this summer.

Tyler Parks and Recreation announced they will not be opening the pool for summer fun this year due to unforeseen issues with the 81 year old Olympic pool.

The city became aware of some critical leak issues during a recent ADA construction project while prepping the pool to welcome summer swimmers. Because of this discovery a third party was brought and evaluated the pool structure, pump system and discovered some needed repairs. Because of the unsafe swimming conditions within the pool the City determined they could not open the pool this summer due to unsafe swimming conditions.

The issue was discovered in the 50 meter pool, which was originally built in 1938, and the much needed repairs would take three months or longer to complete, thus, wiping out the 2019 summer swim season.

Tyler Parks and Recreation Director, Russ Jackson, said in a city press release,

While we understand the disappointment this news brings, we take the safety of our residents very seriously and are not willing to compromise that safety. We invite all to cool off at the Faulkner Park Spraygrounds and the newly renovated Splasher the Dolphin splash pad at Bergfeld Park, which are up and running during approved park hours."
