Last week I was standing in line at McAlisters Deli waiting to order, when I noticed three police officers standing in the line next to me. I couldn’t help but listen to their conversation. They were chatting about the past weeks events- such as the shooting at the mall and the high speed chase out in Chandler, and about how much hard work was put into both of those incidents.

It got me thinking about how much police officers really do for us, and how little praise they receive in return. Apparently I was not the only one who thought this, the man in line behind them paid for their dinner as a “thank you” for all of their hard work and putting their lives on the line protecting the city and the people of the city.

The week of May 15-21 is set aside each year as National Police Week. All across the nation this week police officers and their families will remember and honor those who have fallen, making the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting us. So this week take special notice of the officers around you, and take some time this week to say thank you to the men and women who put their lives on the line each and every day.
